J. Keith Hughey

Keith is a management consultant with over thirty-five years of consulting and managerial experience.  Until founding his own practice, J. Keith Hughey Company in 2008 he was a principal in the WHY Group, LLC.  These days much of his time is spent facilitating corporate planning retreats, consulting on organizational health (human systems), corporate governance, change management, productivity, and performance improvement.  He is also a noted speaker and the author of the widely read e-letter, Monday Morning Musings.

Born and raised in Houston, TX, he received his B.B.A in accounting (with Honors) in 1974 from the University of Houston.  His post graduate studies in finance and economics were also done at the University of Houston.  Following college he worked for Texas Commerce Bank as a member of that organization’s internal planning division.  He joined the consulting ranks in 1977 where for the next twenty years he specialized in risk management for financial institutions.  Gradually, Keith began to focus more and more on the subject of human capital and what is required to more fully leverage that underutilized asset.

In addition to writing Monday Morning Musings, he is a frequent guest lecturer as well as a member of the faculty at the Southwestern Graduate School of Banking at SMU where he teaches classes in strategic management, planning, and leadership.

Throughout his career he has served on numerous non-profit and governmental boards including the executive committee of the Advisory Board for the Banking Program at Texas A&M University.  He and his wife, Sandy, are members of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in San Antonio.  They’ve been married for almost forty years.  They have four grown children and nine grandchildren.  Today, they share their home with two large, very spoiled dogs.  In his spare time Keith enjoys golf, landscape gardening, reading, and time with the grandchildren.
