Speak It into Existence
The other morning, I happened to catch part of an interview with Kristen Bell, actress, singer, children’s book author, Golden Globe and People’s Choice Award winner, wife, mom, and apparently all-around likable person, as she talked about her new book, “The World Needs More Purple Schools.” For those unfamiliar with Ms. Bell’s work, let me just say she was the voice of Anna in Frozen and Frozen II.
Because of her role in Frozen, at one point in the conversation the interviewer asked if there was going to be a Frozen III? To which she replied that while she has no say in the matter, there will be a third entry in the franchise. In response her interviewer said, “So you are going to speak it into existence.”
Clearly, that exchange and especially the line about speaking something into existence caught my attention. And why not? That is precisely how a dream or vision of the future, having reached the stage where it can be articulated, is shared with others. A vision, once shared, can now move from the imagination of a single individual to a train of thought that is planted, multiplied, nurtured, and refined by the thoughts of many. The energy of that process sooner or later transforms the vision into reality.
What makes this lone conversation even more interesting – to me at least – is that later in the week, a good friend of mine shared something with me that until now he had only verbalized to his wife and eldest son. So as not to spill the beans before he can unveil his vision to a larger audience, I’ll simply say his dream involves a special project he wants to accomplish in the next stage of his life. Knowing my friend, his gifts and passion for what lies at the heart of this project, I firmly believe he will make it happen. After all, he has already begun speaking it into existence.
So, let me ask you, is there a dream you have that you are ready and willing to speak into existence? Before you hesitate or duck the question altogether, remember that in writing it down and articulating that vision to others, you are dramatically improving the odds of that dream of yours happening. And the odds only increase in your favor when you can stir the imaginations and harness the collective wisdom and energy of others in pursuit of your goal.

Truly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will come to pass, it will be done for him.
