Things That Come in Threes – Part I
Have you ever noticed how many things are based on the number three or come in groups of three? Here is but a sampling.
The Three Stooges
Three Blind Mice
Neapolitan Ice Cream
Field Goal
Three Point Shot
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner
Olympic Medals: Bronze, Silver, and Gold
Rock, Paper, Scissors
Parts of an Atom: Proton, Neutron, and Electron
The Genie’s Three Wishes
Goldilocks and the Three Bears
The Three Musketeers
Traffic Signal: Red, Yellow, Green
Tic-Tac-Toe
Primary Colors: Red, Blue, and Yellow
Three Sides to a Triangle
Three Monkeys: See, Hear, and Speak no Evil
The Cajun Trinity: Green Bell Pepper, Onion, and Celery
Of course there is the Holy Trinity as well. If you study my writing style you may notice an abnormal number of my sentences include groupings of three attributes or adjectives. I did not really pay attention to how often I use that device until I started thinking about this series.
My point in this is something I have touched on before in this space – namely the three traits that when present in an individual are highly predictive of (critical to) that individual’s career success. Those three qualities are smarts (both IQ and EQ), hunger (ambition or
drive/dedication), and humility. Fall short in any of the three and a person’s performance at successively higher levels of an organization is apt to be limited if not their downfall. (Note: My thanks to my good friend, Jimmy Chambers, for alerting me to this particular trifecta.)
Next week, in Part II, we will take on the one that really smart, driven, and otherwise successful individuals seem to struggle with the most: HUMILITY.
Soli Deo Gloria
“May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.” 2 Corinthians 13:14
